Allen was stuck in place. Seeing Lawrynn cry over Murder’s bloody body broke even his heart. Hearing her scream his name and rock back and forth while holding his head on her lap was the most heartbreaking shit he had ever seen. In the hood, he had seen a lot of shit, but this shit right here had him choked the fuck up. He looked around to see if he could spot any of the niggas they had a problem with.

“Yo, what the fuck happened out this motherfucker?” Pain asked as he came up.

“What the fuck it look like? Somebody hit up Murder. Where the fuck were you?” Allen asked.

“Man, I got caught up with Connie’s thick ass. Do you know who did it?” he asked.

“Nah, some shit went down, and things got hectic as fuck,” Allen said, shaking his head.

“Excuse me, we need to get through here,” a paramedic said as they came up.

Allen stepped to the side, but he was sure to keep his eye on Pain. Looking at his friend laid out and getting worked on meant that everyone was a suspect until they found the real culprit.

“Law, you gotta get up, baby girl. We gotta get to the hospital. If you not gonna ride in the back, you can ride with me,” Allen told her.

Lawrynn didn’t make a sound; she just sat there with her hands still the same way they were when Murder was lying in her arms. She seemed to almost be in a catatonic state. Allen had never seen any shit like this before, only in those stupid horror movies he watched.

“Lawrynn, you gotta get up, baby girl,” Pain said, trying to help.

“Fuck you. If I find out you did this to him, I will kill you my damn self. I thought we were past this shit. Where the hell were you? You just happen to come up right now? How fucking convenient,” Lawrynn told Pain.

“Hold the fuck up. I get you all hurt and shit, but you can’t blame him for this shit. He was with me, that’s why he’s late. Fuck all that other shit,” Connie said from behind Pain.

Until she started talking, nobody noticed she was standing there.

“Who in the entire fuck are you? I suggest you get a backstory from ya boy here before you start sticking up for his wandering dick ass. I’m not changing shit. I just said either. Now I have enough bullets for you to get a couple too if you feel like protecting him that day,” Lawrynn said to Connie.

Pain and Allen had never seen this side of Lawrynn. Even with all the stuff going on with Murder, the way she looked right now had both of them slightly shook. There was nothing but hate and fire in her eyes.

“Come on, Lawrynn. We gotta go,” Allen said.

“Lawrynn, baby girl, you can’t be acting out like this. There is a time and place for everything. Just focus on being there for my son-in-law and leave all the bullshit aside. No need to worry about shit that’s never mattered anyway,” Lawrence said and looked at Pain while ignoring the stare that Connie was giving him.

Right now, those two were the least his of concerns, just like they should’ve been Lawrynn’s last concern.

Lawrynn walked beside Allen to the car. She low key wanting ol’ girl who was with Pain to come at her talking some more shit because she needed to get out some frustration. Beating some ass was right up her alley.

“I don’t think Pain did this shit,” Allen said as they all got in the car.

He and Lawrence exchanged looks in the rearview mirror. They were both thinking the same thing, but Lawrence didn’t feel like this was the time to talk about it. He shook his head from side to side, letting Allen know that he needed to drop it for now.

“Okay,” was all Lawrynn returned on the topic. She said what she said, and she meant what she said.

Lawrynn had never been so scared in her life. It was usually her in the ambulance, not Murder. Murder was the one who kept her together when she was falling to pieces. Being in this position was definitely a change for her. She had never seen Murder so vulnerable. Right when they pulled up to the hospital, she decided that if she was gonna hold him down like he had done for her, she had to put her feelings on the back burner.

“You want me to drop you at the door while I park?” Allen asked.

“Nah, I gotta get my mind right. You can park. I wanna be in on whoever did this to him,” she told Allen.

“What the hell! Oh, fuck nah. You’re not getting in this shit. That’s not a good look, baby girl,” Lawrence said from the back seat. He understood where she was coming from, but she needed to chill out on this one. There were too many emotions involved as far as Lawrence was concerned.

“He ain’t gonna like that shit, Lawrynn. I don’t know about that,” Allen said.

“He would do it for me. I’ve seen him go hard for me through everything, no matter who was at fault. He is me, and I am him, so I want in. If you don’t keep me posted, I’ll find out on my own,” she said as Allen turned the car off.

“Man, this shit ’bout to go downhill real fast,” Allen said, shaking his head.

He turned the car off and hopped out jogging to catch up with her. Shaking his head, Allen knew she was dead ass about what she just said. He just knew he didn’t want to be around when Murder found out what she was up to.

Walking into the hospital, Lawrynn knew she would be there all night. What she wasn’t ready for was to see all the nosey ass nurses looking at her ass like they didn’t know who she was there for. Murder and Lawrynn both had been in there together enough for them to know what the fucking deal was. Was it fucked up that the hospital staff should know them like the bouncers at a club, yeah? But, she didn’t give one fuck about all that right now.

“I’m here to see what’s going on with Maurice Jackson. He was just brought in by ambulance,” she said to the nurse.

Lawrynn knew exactly who this damn nurse was. She was the only nurse on the floor who matched her hair with whatever color scrubs she had on that week. It was the most ghetto shit Lawrynn had seen in all her life. That on top of the nose ring, gold tooth, and face tattoo let Lawrynn know she would be on some bullshit.

“Are you family?” she asked with a smirk.

“Yeah, I’m his wife. Next question,” she answered.

“Do you have any proof of that?” the nurse asked.

“We don’t have time for this shit,” Lawrence said.

“Bruh, are you fucking serious right now? You know you remember him being up here when she was laid up in this motherfucker. Don’t lose ya teeth trying to be petty as fuck at the wrong time,” Allen stepped up and said.

The chic looked at Lawrynn for a few minutes then she shook her head.

“Oh, my bad, you’re the blind bitch,” she said with a smile.

Lawrynn reached out quick as hell and grabbed the nurse’s dark blue weave then slammed her face on the desk as hard as she could. When she lifted her head, there were three teeth still on the desk, including the gold one. Her hands went right to her mouth, which was bleeding along with her nose.

“Now you gotta eat applesauce,” Lawrence said with a chuckl
e when he saw her teeth on the desk.

“Now you’re the bitch who used to have the gold tooth,” Lawrynn said. She looked at the other nurse who was at the desk just watching what was going on. “Are you gonna help me?”

“He’s in surgery. You can wait in the private waiting room. I’ll let you know if anything goes on,” she said with a smile.

  “Thank you,” Lawrynn said sweetly.

Allen shook his head how quickly Lawrynn switched shit up as they walked in the waiting area and took a seat.

“Man, did you see that shit? Lawrynn might need to be on the damn team after that shit. She banged her head out of nowhere. She was quick as fuck too. I gotta warn Murder when he gets out of the woods,” Allen told Lawrence.

“Man, I wasn’t even expecting that shit. She shocked the hell out of me,” Lawrence responded.

  “Where’s Nell?” Lawrynn asked.

“She all pissed off because I knocked her pops or whoever he was out. I really don’t know where she is,” he answered honestly.

“Don’t let the secrets of the OGs fuck y’all up. I get why she’s upset, but he ain’t have to bring me into their shit. I had no dealings with whatever pissed him off. He was out of line as fuck,” Lawrynn said.

“Yeah, but she’s feeling some type of way right now. I’ll hit her up tomorrow to talk about that shit. I didn’t kill him, but I should’ve, being that he had a fucking gun on you,” Allen said, pissed off all over again. They were supposed to be celebrating right now, not in a fucking hospital waiting area.

Lawrynn ended up falling asleep in her chair with her head resting against the wall. She woke up when Allen tapped her shoulder, and the doctor was standing behind him.

“Mrs. Jackson, your husband is out of surgery. He’s asking for you. He won’t let us move him to a room until he sees you,” the doctor said.

“Well, lead the way,” Lawrynn said with a smile on her face.

“I need to check your vitals,” the nurse told Murder.

“If you touch me, I’m gonna throat chop your ass. I told you nobody’s moving me or touching me until I see my damn wife. What you don’t get about that?” he asked her.

The nurse just turned and walked out of the room.

“Why are you talking to her like that?” Lawrynn said with a smile. She was relieved that he was sitting up and talking shit.

“Fuck her. Come here,” Murder said and licked his lips.

Hearing her cry for him and not being able to talk to her in order to calm her down pissed Murder off more than anything. He gave her a sloppy kiss when she was close enough.

“You scared me,” she told him seriously.

“I would do it again. I would rather be in here than see you in here again,” Murder said. Lawrynn looked at him, confused as hell, so he elaborated. “The bullet I took was meant for you. I jumped in front of you, and I will do it again and again.”

“Hold the fuck up. What you mean they were aiming for her? So, you saw who shot you? Well, who the fuck was it?” Lawrence asked.

He was standing in the doorway with Allen behind him.

“It’s still a little fuzzy, but as soon as my mind is clear, I’ll let you know what the deal is,” Murder said to Lawrence.

He knew Lawrence wasn’t going to leave it alone, but he wasn’t ready to say what he saw just yet.

“Who was shooting at me? I swear I’m tired of everybody coming for me. I try so hard to mind my damn business, and I can’t seem to catch a damn break with anything. What the hell is wrong with me?” Lawrynn asked.

Murder hated seeing her looking defeated like she was right now. He reached for her hand.

“It’s not you. Everybody sees how strong you are, and they don’t like the shit. When I find out who did this, they’re gonna have to answer for this shit. No more sliding going on when it comes to you. People need to know that fucking with you is just like fucking with me. No shorts will be taken, and I don’t care who it is,” Murder told her.

He wanted to tell her what he knew, but now was not the right time.

“I might as well tell you now before Allen’s snitching ass tells you. I told him I want in on whoever did this,” Lawrynn said.

Murder chuckled a little bit until he saw that she wasn’t chuckling with him.

“Hold up, you serious?” he asked. “Nah, man, hell nah. Only one of us needs to be savage in our relationship, man. I got that. Let me get my hands dirty. You just sit back and look sexy as fuck like you’ve been doing. You’re strong as fuck, and you standing strong with everything you’ve been through is all you need to do,” he told her.

“You’re in the hospital, so I need to step in and hold you down like you did me,” Lawrynn insisted.

“Nah, that’s not how it needs to be. You need to kick back and chill. I don’t wanna find out you out here on some set it off type of shit. If I find that out, I’m gonna fuck ya until you can’t walk for a week,” Murder said.

For a minute, Lawrynn contemplated going out and doing something crazy because what he said sounded more like a benefit than a punishment. Murder laughed at her when he saw on her face what she was thinking.

“Stop being nasty,” he said with a smile.

“Aye, I don’t need to hear all that kind of bullshit,” Lawrence said with his face balled up.

“How you feeling?” she asked Murder.

“Like I got shot in the shoulder. I heard you doing all that hooping and hollering too, man. Then you gonna walk in here like you gangsta and shit,” he said and laughed.

  “Shut up.”

“Let me holler at ya dad and Allen for a minute. Call my uncle to let him know I’m good. I know for sure that he ain’t out there. He avoids all hospitals like the fucking plague. I only seen him come to a hospital two times in my life. Since my grandma died when I was a little boy, he hasn’t stepped foot in one of these motherfuckers. His punk ass is good until I’m the one hurt,” he said.

“I know when you’re trying to get rid of me. I’ll let you talk to your people. I have to make some phone calls anyway,” she said and gave Murder a kiss before going to do what he asked.

“What’s up, man? I’m happy as hell you’re up and shit. Ya girl was ready to wild out for real,” Allen said.

“You see I had to shut that shit down with a quickness. I need you to watch her people, man. Seeing how her family moves just makes a nigga like me happy as hell that my family is small as fuck,” he said, shaking his head.

“What are you not telling us?” Allen asked, knowing that Murder was up to something for sure.

“I’ll let you in when I’m sure that who I saw was who I saw. I hope I was just seeing wrong because if it’s who I think it is, Lawrynn’s gonna lose it,” Murder said.

“Damn, maybe we should just kill all they asses and be out,” Allen suggested.

Outside the room, Lawrynn racked her brain to figure out who was the person that Murder was talking about. She tried to force the memory of what happened back into her mind. Although she couldn’t figure out exactly who Murder was talking about, she damn sure was gonna find out or die trying.

“Murder, I know you feel just like I do when it comes to Lawrynn. If it comes down to it being someone in the family, if you don’t want to take that shot then just pass me the damn gun. Fuck all of them, if you wanna know how I really feel. They knee deep in this shit,” Lawrence put in his two cents.

Murder just nodded, letting Lawrence know that he just might take him up on his offer.

“Are you sure you didn’t leave anything out when you told me about y’all little situation?” Connie asked. She didn’t like how Lawrynn came at her and Pain a few minutes ago.

When she found out the situation, she was alright with it, but seeing how shook Pain was about Lawrynn accusing him of the very thing he didn’t do pissed her off.

“No, man. Why you keep asking me that?” Pain asked.

Connie had been asking the same que
stion since they got back to his house, and Pain was getting tired of saying the same thing over and over again. He didn’t know what she wanted him to say, but if she kept on, he was gonna say a bunch of shit that she wouldn’t like.

“I’m just trying to figure out why she automatically came at you for shooting your friend,” Connie said. If the situation would’ve been different, she would’ve hit Lawrynn in the damn mouth.

“I’m not gonna keep repeating my damn self. You can drop the damn questions or carry your ass home. You’re giving me a fucking headache,” Pain said.

“Motherfucker, I just defended you to your ex, and you’re screaming on me. You and her got me fucked up. I don’t need this shit in my life. You may not be used to dealing with a real woman, but I damn sure ain’t used to dealing with a fraud ass nigga,” Connie said.

“Why the hell are you so damn mad? You know I didn’t do the shit. I’ve been with your aggy ass all damn night. As far as you defending me, I didn’t need your damn help. We haven’t even fucked or kissed, but you’re jumping in arguments not meant for you and shit. What type of shit are you on?” Pain asked.

He was starting to have doubts of him and Connie becoming anything more than just casual friends. Shaking his head, he thought about how Karma had it out for his ass something fierce. Seeing Connie switch up on him couldn’t be anything other than karma’s bitch ass making his life a living hell.

“You need to ask yourself that question. Why are you even still cool with them like that? He was supposed to be your best friend, but now he’s all in love with your ex. If you ask me, they were already fucking and just waiting on your ass to slip up, and you did. Niggas kill me always barking at the wrong one. You don’t have to tell me to leave, I’ll gladly go. I don’t need this type of drama in my life. You go ’head and be the best man at their wedding, with your dumb ass,” Connie said as she gathered her things.
